(Educational Practice) This session highlights the Texas state award winning 5th grade project of Future Problem Solving. The steps are given from start to finish on how to meet state standards and build community with your students. This interdisciplinary approach allows for engaging Problem-based Learning (PBL) which is “an educational instruction method that fosters learning and the development of 21st century competencies and skills (Bell, 2010) through problem solving and the integration and application of knowledge in real-world settings” (Capraro & Slough, 2013, p. 3). The students created KarePacks for Kids in a year-long project giving first responders resources for children in emergency situations.
